Answer

What is the difference between Vyke Mobile Pro and Vyke Mobile Lite?

Vyke Mobile exists in two versions, Vyke Mobile Pro and Vyke Mobile Lite. With Vyke Mobile Lite, you get all the same services as in Vyke Mobile Pro, except for free mobile messaging. If your mobile phone does not support Vyke Mobile Pro, try Vyke Mobile Lite - it is still a great way to save money on SMS and international calls!

Should I download Vyke Mobile Pro or Vyke Mobile Lite?

If your phone model less than two years old, most likely it will support Vyke Mobile Pro. First attempt to download Vyke Mobile Pro, if your phone indicates that Vyke Mobile Pro is not supported please download Vyke Mobile Lite. NOTE: You may have both versions on your phone if Vyke Mobile Pro is supported.

How do I keep Vyke Mobile Pro always connected?

To send and receive free messages with Vyke Mobile Pro, your application needs to be online. Vyke Mobile Pro is set to connection time-out “always online” and Ping Intervals of 5 minutes. This means that Vyke Mobile Pro will contact the Vyke network every 5 minutes and continue to do so until you disconnect or close the application. You can change these settings under Settings in the Options menu.

Please note that each time Vyke Mobile Pro connects to the Vyke network (Ping interval) there is a small amount of data used. If left at default settings, the application will consume approximately 0.7 MB pr month of mobile data if the application is kept online 24/7. Check your mobile operator’s rate plan to find out how you are charged for mobile date usage. Be aware that some mobile operators may charge for mobile data usage based on the amount of time you are connected rather than the amount of data used. Vyke is not responsible for your mobile data charges.

Some mobile operators will automatically disconnect a mobile data session after a certain amount of time. This time might be less than 5 minutes. If you experience that Vyke Mobile Pro disconnects when it should not, please adjust the “Ping interval” settings to a shorter amount of time. For example, Vyke recommends that Vodafone users set their “Ping interval” to 29 seconds to avoid being disconnected.

For Vyke Mobile Lite users, the application only connects to the Vyke network when you send a message or make a call. Vyke Mobile Lite automatically disconnects when the action is completed and will not consume additional mobile data if left open.

Can I use Vyke Mobile Pro when I do not have a mobile data connection?

Yes! Vyke Mobile Pro features an SMS fallback function that allows you to set-up international calls without having access to mobile internet. To enable this, please go to Settings in the Options menu and adjust the Data bearer to SMS fallback or SMS. Vyke recommends that you change the Data bearer setting back to Internet as soon as you return to your normal network.

Can I store more than 50 messages in my inbox?

Yes! Vyke Mobile Pro allows you to configure the number of messages stored in your Inbox and Sent items folders. If your phone has sufficient available memory you may store up to 200 messages in either folder. You can adjust these settings in Settings in the Options menu.

My phone asks me to confirm access to mobile internet / user data / etc.- How do I fix this?

To function as intended, Vyke Mobile Pro must be authorized to perform the following actions:

  1. Access your phone’s address book / Read user data
  2. Allow for automatic start-up of applications
  3. Allow access for applications to mobile internet / Internet access

How to set these authorizations is dependant on the manufacturer of your mobile phone.
For Nokia phones, go to the Application manager folder, highlight Vyke Mobile Pro, click Options and select “Suite settings”. Change App auto-start to Always allowed. Change Read user data to Always allowed. Always leave Network Access option to Ask first time.

For Sony Ericsson phones the settings are normally found by clicking permissions in the More menu after highlighting Vyke Mobile Pro in the applications folder. For the three functionalities listed above, please select “always allowed” or “never ask” if allowed by your mobile phone.

How can I see if my friends are online with Vyke Mobile Pro?

When writing a new message in Vyke Mobile Pro, you can use the Check number feature in the Options menu to check the status of the user you are sending the message to. You can only use this feature after you have selected a recipient of your message.

There are three user status’: User offline, User online and Not a subscriber. If the user is not a subscriber, use the tell a friend feature to send them Vyke Mobile Pro!

Where can I download Vyke Mobile?

To download Vyke Mobile (Pro or Lite version), please go to the Vyke Mobile download page (requires that you are logged in). Once you have entered your mobile phone number and pressed send, a message will be sent to your phone containing a link to the automatic download page. This link will automatically start the download and install process.

Making sure that your mobile phone is correctly configured:

Please note that Vyke Mobile will not function if your mobile phone is not correctly configured!

To ensure that Vyke Mobile will function on your phone, please verify the following:

-Your mobile operator offers mobile data access (via GPRS, EDGE, 3G, etc.)

-Your mobile phone supports Java applications

For sending and receiving data, your phone connects to your mobile operator via protocols like GPRS, EDGE, 3G, etc. Within that connection, there are two types of data that can be transmitted - WAP and Internet. The online browsing experience that most people are familiar with is based on WAP as WAP was created specifically for online mobile browsing. However, when your phone connects via its Internet settings, it is sending and retrieving data from the regular Internet much like a computer does. In order to download and use Vyke Mobile, you must verify that both WAP and Internet are correctly configured on your phone.

On most phones, WAP and Internet are separate settings within the phone (Nokia and Sony Ericsson for example). However, some phones have combined WAP and Internet into one setting to make the set-up process easier (such as Samsung). Please note that each mobile operator uses different settings for WAP and Internet.

There are three ways to ensure that your phone is correctly configured:

1) Visit the webpage of your mobile phone operator. Most operators worldwide provide a 'Support' or 'Settings' service that allows you to enter your phone model and have the correct settings for your network sent directly to your mobile phone. Please make sure that you send the following settings to your phone.
1) WAP
2) Internet and/or Email settings (Samsung phones do not require this setting)

2)Most mobile phone manufacturers offer a service where configuration settings can be sent directly to your phone from their website. To use this method, go to the website of your mobile phone manufacturer and look for a section marked 'Settings' or 'Support'. For your convenience, we have provided you with links to the settings pages of some of the larger mobile phone manufacturers. Please visit the webpage of your mobile phone manufacturer if it is not listed here.

NOKIA - Only Step 1 (WAP/GPRS, MMS and Internet) is required

SONY ERICSSON - After you have selected your phone model, you will need to set up 'WAP' and 'Email'.

MOTOROLA - Please select 'Operator Settings' from the drop down menu and then enter your email address to proceed to the next page. On the next page, please click on the 'Operator Settings' link. From the new window, please follow the instructions to set-up 'WAP' and 'Internet'.

SAMSUNG - The Samsung website will redirect you automatically depending on where you live. Once you reach the home page, please scroll all the way to the bottom of the page and click on the 'FAQs' link. From the list of FAQ's, please click on either "I'm getting an error sending MMS's" or "How do I configure my WAP and MMS settings?". Depending on your region, the Samsung website may ask you to register or may provide the phone setting services without registration. As Samsung phones combine WAP and Internet settings into one, you only need to follow the instructions for 'WAP'.

3) Call the help desk of your mobile operator and ask them for the correct settings for WAP and Internet / Email for your phone. They can either guide you through the process on the phone or send you the correct settings directly to your phone.

I’m having a problem making my first call

Make sure that the number you are trying to call is correct, and that is in international format. All numbers entered into Vyke Mobile must be in international format.

Example of number:
-Domestic format for a French mobile phone: 0680555555
-International format: 33680555555 or
+33680555555 or
0033680555555

Additionally, please verify that you have the correct WAP/Internet settings in your phone.

Vyke Mobile experiences a connection error

When you start using Vyke Mobile, be sure that you have Internet settings on your phone as well, not all phones require it, but most Nokia and Sony Ericsson phones do. You will normally find these setting on your operator’s home page, or by calling their customer service.

Vyke Mobile Pro users can click on Connect / Disconnect in the Options menu to refresh a data connection.

The program will not install on my phone

If the program does not install on your phone, your phone is most likely not supported by that version of Vyke Mobile. If you have attempted to download Vyke Mobile Pro, please retry using Vyke Mobile Lite. If this also fails, we recommend that you upgrade your handset.

Can I use my regular address book with Vyke Mobile?

Most phones can use the normal address book with Vyke Mobile. This means that you will have all your current contacts available from Vyke Mobile. There are a few phones that don’t support the phone’s address book; among these phones are Sony Ericsson P800, P900 and P910 (however, the P910i and later models support this feature). All phone models from Sony Ericsson beginning with either S or K i.e. K700i support this feature.

Can I use my mobile phone to setup calls if it doesn’t support Java?

If your phone does not support Java you can not use Vyke Mobile, but you can use Vyke SMS. With Vyke SMS you can set up phone calls with text messages. Please read the Vyke SMS page to get started.

Can I make a call from a different phone then my mobile phone?

Via the Call @ function (located in the Calling menu in Vyke Mobile Pro and in the Options menu in Vyke Mobile Lite), Vyke Mobile allows you to define both the phone number you want to call to and the phone number you want to call from. It is normally less expensive to make a phone call from a fixed line instead of your mobile, so if you have a fixed phone close by, Vyke recommends that you divert your call there, by using the Call@ feature. The phone call will still be paid by your Vyke account but at a (normally) lower per minute rate. Please see our Calling Rates page for more information.

If you are using Vyke Mobile while roaming, you may use Call@ to divert your call to a local fixed or mobile phone. In this manner you can avoid incoming roaming charges using Vyke Mobile.

How can I send SMS from Vyke Mobile Lite? How does someone reply to a Vyke Mobile Lite SMS?

Vyke Mobile Lite allows you to send SMS to almost any mobile phone number in the world at low prices.

To send SMS via Vyke Mobile Lite, please select the SMS function in the Options menu. To complete the first step, please select or enter the phone number of the person you are sending the SMS to. In the second step, please enter the text of the SMS (predictive text entry is supported on the majority of phones) and then press send. In a few seconds, the SMS will be delivered!
