Answer

What is Vyke Mobile IP?

Vyke Mobile IP is a mobile internet telephony service which allows a user to make calls over the internet directly from a WiFi (also known as WLAN) enabled mobile phone. For more information, please click here

Why should I use Vyke Mobile IP?

Vyke Mobile IP is an easy to use way to dramatically reduce your mobile phone bill. Research has shown that more than 60% of an average mobile phone user’s calling minutes take place in the home or office - exactly the kind of places where you would have a WiFi (WLAN) network! From these locations, Vyke Mobile IP offers you per minute calling rates far lower than a typical mobile operator. For more information, please click here

When can I use Vyke Mobile IP?

You can use Vyke Mobile IP any time your WiFi (WLAN) enabled mobile phone is connected to a WiFi network and registered to Vyke Mobile IP. Typical locations for using Vyke Mobile IP include your home, office or other places that you visit regularly. To maximize your savings, Vyke recommends that you use Vyke Mobile IP whenever you are in range of one of your registered WiFi networks!

Where do I find the ‘Internet telephone’ service on a Nokia mobile phone?

You may access Vyke Mobile IP by selecting the Internet telephone icon from your Nokia phone's Tools menu. Additionally, many users have found it beneficial to create a shortcut to the Internet telephone service directly on their phone's standby screen (i.e. the screen that is displayed when your phone is idle). To find out the benefits of, and instructions for, creating this shortcut, please click here

What is the difference between ‘Internet call’ and ‘Cellular call’

WiFi-enabled mobile phones supported by Vyke Mobile IP have two calling methods; "Cellular" and "Internet". Cellular calls are calls like the ones you make everyday from your mobile phone. They are handled by your mobile operator and are included on your normal mobile phone bill. Internet calls are calls that are handled by Vyke Mobile IP. When registered with the Vyke Mobile IP service, an Internet call will be sent over your WiFi connection to Vyke Mobile IP. The charge for calling via Vyke Mobile IP will be applied to your Vyke account.

Will my mobile operator charge me for using Vyke Mobile IP?

When connecting to Vyke Mobile IP over a WiFi (WLAN) connection, you will not be charged by your mobile operator! You may also connect to Vyke Mobile IP via a 3G connection provided by your mobile operator. In that event, you will be charged at your current mobile data rate as established by your mobile operator’s service agreement. Please note that Vyke does not recommend using Vyke Mobile IP via a 3G connection unless you are certain that your 3G mobile data plan is charged on an unlimited usage basis.

How do I access a WiFi (WLAN) network from my phone?

To use Vyke Mobile IP, your phone must be connected to a WiFi (WLAN) network. To find out how to connect to a WiFi (WLAN) network, please click here. If you are using a Nokia E60, E61 or E70, pleas follow the instructions located here.

How do I access Vyke Mobile IP from a public hot spot?

If you are connecting to an open, unsecured WiFi hotspot, please follow the instructions here to find out how to connect. If you are using a Nokia E60, E61 or E70, pleas follow the instructions located here.

Note: Connecting to secured public WiFi hotspots can sometimes be problematic from a mobile phone. This is because many hotspot providers ask you for a username and password in your normal web browser before you are allowed to connect. Vyke does not recommend that you use Vyke Mobile IP from these types of WiFi hotspots.

How can I change my Vyke Mobile IP username and password in my Nokia phone?

To change the Vyke Mobile IP username and/or password stored in your mobile phone, please follow the instructions here. If you are using a Nokia E60, E61 or E70, pleas follow the instructions located here.

Will Vyke Mobile IP connect automatically?

Vyke Mobile IP is, by default, set to connect to WiFi (WLAN) networks manually. However, you may easily change this configuration to allow your mobile phone to connect to Vyke Mobile IP automatically. To find out how to set your phone to connect automatically, and the benefits of doing so, please click here.

How many WiFi zones can I use for Vyke Mobile IP?

What is VoIP?

VoIP ('Voice over Internet Protocol'), often referred to as IP telephony, is a way of routing a voice conversation over the internet or through an IP based network. Simply put, it is a way of utilizing the internet for telephone conversations. The primary motivations for doing so are cost and convenience as Vyke Mobile IP is significantly less expensive than typical mobile operator long distance calls and can be used from any location worldwide with an acceptable internet connection.

How does Vyke Mobile IP work?

Once you have signed up for Vyke Mobile IP and configured your WiFi-enabled mobile phone, Vyke Mobile IP works by receiving your call via your internet connection. The Vyke network then sends your call through its voice processing platforms and delivers the call to your dialed destination at Vyke Mobile IP’s low per minute rates.

What is SIP?

SIP stands for "Session Initiation Protocol". In IP and traditional telephony, there is a clear distinction between two different phases of a voice call. The first phase is "call setup" and makes two telephones connect so one may talk to each other. Once the call has been setup, the phones enter a "data transfer" phase using an entirely different family of protocols to actually move the voice packets between the two phones. In the VoIP world, SIP is a call setup protocol that operates on the application layer.

Both me and my friend have Vyke Mobile IP / Vyke IP services, can we call each other for free?

If you are both you and the party you would like to speak with are connected to Vyke Mobile IP and/or Vyke IP using the SIP protocol you may talk to each other for free. By entering 10* and your friend's Vyke username you can talk for free to each other as long as you are both online.

I get an error code when I try to make a call!
